Made with Pure Data, this patch is a hybrid of code I found with additions of my own. I'm using a cardioid condenser mic (BadAax 600) that directly inputs into my computer via firewire to USB, reading my sound files in underneath and shuffling them at the adjusted BPM, then creating a noise piece with feedback on top. The table holding the input sound from my mic loops repeatedly, meanwhile the the output is also written into it. If there is nothing being recorded, the loop copies onto itself, and if there is more input, it gets added to the sounds that were already in the loop. Though I am just showcasing how the digital instrument I created works, looped sounds and subsequent feedback create polyphony, and can then be reversed. Which when I sing those soft notes in a major arpeggio, is reminiscent of a siren or the singular voice of a goddess or deity.

In Greek mythology, sea goddesses such as Doris, also known as Oceanids or sea nymphs rule the waters. As one of the three thousand daughters of the Titan Oceanus, they each represent a particular part of nature. The deities of women are long gone in modern Western civilization, and it's seems one the outcomes of a masculated post industrial, capitalist, patriarchal war society. When will we stop ravaging it and using resources to the point of no return? A relevant quote by Rosemary Ruether from New Woman/New Earth:

"Women must see that there can be no liberation for them and no solution to the ecological crisis within a society whose fundamental model of relationships continues to be one of domination. They must unite the demands of the women's movement with those of the ecological movement to envision a radical reshaping of the basic socioeconomic relations and the underlying values of this [modern industrial] society."
